Journey to setting up business
We are Janine Keirs and Kerry Malone, and first met while we were studying proofreading and copyediting. We found, while chatting on the college student forum, that we had a lot in common. This conversation led to the discovery that we lived up the road from each other. We soon started meeting regularly for coffee to discuss the coursework and celebrate as each assignment was finished.
As we were both intending to become freelance proofreaders it made sense to work together. Proof-right was born over numerous cups of coffee as we worked out a business plan, logo and business name.
It was then time to look at marketing and we went along to some marketing courses to give us ideas on how we could go about promoting our business and developing our website.
During the past year we have worked on some very different manuscripts including a romance novel, an Amazonian jungle adventure and a children’s book as well as various projects for government departments and private corporations.
Two pairs of ‘fresh eyes’ are better than one
Human beings are not perfect, and it is impossible for any document to be one hundred per cent error-free, but as we began working together we discovered we each had different strengths, so that together we could find many more mistakes than we would have on our own. We believe this makes us much more effective and gives our clients a much better result.
